Queen Elizabeth National Park

How to get to Queen Elizabeth national park is a common question that any visitor on a Uganda Safari might always ask themselves. Well, Queen Elizabeth National Park is reasonable one of the best and oldest recognized national parks of Uganda. The park is located about 255miles / 410 kilometers west of Uganda’s capital Kampala making it a long but satisfying journey for any Uganda Safari visitor to get there.

For any visitor willing to undertake a Safari to Uganda from abroad, you will first enter Uganda through its Airport – Entebbe International Airport (EBB).  The airport is about 46 kilometers / 29 miles from Uganda’s main town and capital city Kampala.

Any Uganda Safari tour visitor is recommended to use a registered and recognized tour operator / company to help you arrange for pick-up from the airport, and more to that, the company will organize any further transportation, accommodation, meals and more that is required as part of your Uganda Safari package.

Accessing the park is possible for both Uganda Safari visitors that may prefer to drive to the park or even fly in. On the road, a direct drive may take a maximum of 8 hours, though this time includes a few stop overs for breakfast, lunch, relaxation or even sightseeing and many more Uganda Safari attractions along the way as indicated in the structured itinerary. Much as any normal safari vehicle can access the park, a 4×4 wheel safari van may be recommended in the rainy season as the road may sometimes get muddy.

Queen Elizabeth National Park is also accessible through chattered flights. These fly to any of the closest airstrips to the park like Kasese, Mweya or even Kihihi which is close to Ishasha sector that is famous for the tree climbing lions. These flights are normally scheduled by Uganda Tour Operators for example Lakeside Tours and Travel Ltd and they normally set off from Entebbe International Airport or Kajjansi Airfield, also near Entebbe town.
